Job Description

This position will be based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, or Washington, D.C. FIRE operates on a hybrid work schedule that allows for a mix of in-the-office and remote work for eligible employees. This position is not eligible for fully remote work.

Position Summary:

The Social Media Copywriter will report to the Digital Communications Strategist and work within the Communications Department’s Multimedia Team to write copy for social media and short video scripts for FIRE’s one million digital followers. The duties for this position include, but are not limited to: 

  • Serving as lead writer for FIRE’s social media content. This includes organizational X, Facebook, LinkedIn, TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube accounts.
  • Collaborating with FIRE’s social, video, and marketing teams, as well as internal departments, to develop social media campaigns and content.
  • Acting as the lead scriptwriter for FIRE short social media videos lasting no more than three minutes.
  • Monitoring FIRE’s social accounts after traditional office hours.
  • Publishing and scheduling social media content.
  • Engaging with FIRE social media followers, including responding to comments.
  • Performing other support functions for the day-to-day operation of FIRE’s creative process and Communications department. 

This position will also perform other support functions for the day-to-day operation of FIRE. It frequently collaborates with other staff members and departments on general duties and specialized projects. This position involves some travel. Frequent evening and occasional weekend work expected. 

The expected start date for this position is as soon as possible.

Qualifications:

To achieve success, the candidate must be entrepreneurial, organized, and creative. They must also have the ability to work independently and collaboratively and exercise superb independent judgment. Importantly, the candidate must demonstrate a knowledge of and a deep passion for FIRE’s mission.

A candidate must also be able to demonstrate:

  • Exceptional and concise writing ability as well as general copy-editing skills.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit. Identify opportunities and run with them. 
  • The ability to exercise discretion in a fast-paced environment.
  • An excellent work ethic, the ability to work independently to meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of various social media platforms (X, formerly Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, LinkedIn, etc.).
  • Flexibility and creativity during the implementation of a new project.
  • The ability to deliver fresh ideas for younger audiences and to work collaboratively to produce content.
  • A proven ability to successfully collaborate with remote staff members over email, chat, phone, and video calls.

Salary and Compensation:

The projected salary range is $60,000-$70,000 based upon experience and education level. FIRE conducts periodic evaluations where employees may receive raises or bonuses for outstanding and excellent work.
