Duties and Responsibilities
- Performs semi-skilled or skilled general maintenance supporting department(s) or maintenance function. Selects proper maintenance tools and equipment for tasks and follows established safety policies and procedures and applicable codes and regulations.
- Serves as a lead worker as needed by assigning work and monitoring work completion.
- Operates and/or transports equipment, including heavy equipment as assigned, for various functions such as grading/excavating, collection and removal of debris, refuse and/or snow, and/or material application and distribution.
- Plans routes and sets up work areas for safety and operational efficiency, including set up of traffic control measures as needed. Sets up/tears down traffic control work zones and various safety equipment including trench boxes, hydraulic shoring, and confined space equipment.
- Operates and maintains assigned equipment and tools. Performs inspections to ensure safe operating conditions. Completes routine repairs and/or replacement of parts, cleaning and preventative maintenance, and monitors need for replacement or advanced repairs.
- Plans, monitors, and reviews inventory, resources, and materials needs. Initiates orders for resources based on requirements, coordinating with contract workers and trade specialists when required by scheduling and coordinating repairs and maintenance services.
- Completes various manual labor tasks such as cutting asphalt streets or concrete sidewalks, hand digging to locate buried utilities, loading/unloading heavy equipment, using gas-powered saws to cut and remove damaged sewer pipes, installation of new sewer pipes/fittings, replacement of sewer manhole rings/covers, backfilling excavations, work site cleanup, materials hauling/disposal, and additional site restoration activities.
- Supports emergency response in the event of inclement weather, including support for debris cleanup after severe storms or snow and ice response for facilities.

Typical Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED and three years of assignment-related equipment operation/driving, maintenance experience related to utility work, or experience related to the following fields:
- Construction: Grading, storm drain, site work, builder, plumber, any utility construction (including fiber installation), road construction.
- Landscaping: Installer, maintenance, irrigation.
- Mechanic: Heavy equipment, HVAC, hydraulic systems.
- Farming: Manual labor, equipment operating.
- Moving Company: Labor, truck driver.
- General Municipal Worker: Utility inspector.
- Tech School Student: Mechanical.
- Firefighter: Full or part-time.
OR
An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job as listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation.
Licensing and Certifications:
- Valid Class C Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record, or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire.
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record, or the ability to obtain within 90 days of hire.
- Collection System Operator Certification Grade I, or the ability to obtain within one year of hire.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Collection System Operator Certification Grade II.

Heavy Work:
