Job Description

A leading heavy civil construction company is seeking a Civil Construction Estimator. You will be responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates for private and public heavy civil projects. This includes analyzing project plans, determining costs for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractors, and developing detailed bid proposals. The role requires expertise in cost code bidding, job cost reporting, unit production tracking, and subcontractor negotiations.

Responsibilities:

• Review project documents to determine scope.
• Perform detailed quantity takeoffs, focusing on earthwork, drainage, utilities, joint trenching, and materials.
• Research market pricing for labor, materials, and equipment.
• Solicit and evaluate subcontractor bids, negotiating terms.
• Develop accurate cost estimates, including direct/indirect costs and markup.
• Prepare detailed bid proposals with cost breakdowns and assumptions.
• Collaborate with project teams to ensure accurate pricing and execution.
• Track unit production and analyze job costs to optimize budgeting.
• Stay current on industry best practices and estimating techniques.

Qualifications:

• 10+ years in heavy civil construction estimating (private/public works).
• Proficiency in HCSS HeavyBid, Vista Accounting Software, P6/Microsoft Project, and Microsoft Office.
• Strong understanding of job cost reporting and unit production tracking.
• Expertise in soil reports, earthwork calculations, and material/dirt takeoffs.
• In-depth knowledge of market pricing for labor, materials, and equipment.
• Excellent negotiation, communication, and team collaboration skills.
