Job Description

Our client, a law firm ranked nationally by the most respected industry guides, is seeking an experienced eDiscovery Manager to lead and enhance its eDiscovery operations. This role will support legal teams and clients by establishing best practices, managing eDiscovery processes, and providing strategic consultation on litigation and technology workflows. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in the EDRM lifecycle, strong technical proficiency with tools like Relativity and Brainspace, and the ability to oversee a team of eDiscovery professionals. SUMMARY: 
The primary function of this role is to utilize eDiscovery, legal and personnel management knowledge and experience to establish and maintain eDiscovery standards and best practices, provide consultative support in the use and application of standard eDiscovery technology and manage day-to-day eDiscovery operations to ensure the effective and efficient delivery of eDiscovery services. This position requires an in-depth understanding of the litigation life cycle, eDiscovery technology and legal rules and trends, and the ability to effectively manage risks associated with the execution of eDiscovery tasks.  This is a non-practicing attorney role supporting practicing attorneys and clients.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 
  • The eDiscovery Manager is responsible for establishing and maintaining defensible, repeatable and sound eDiscovery practices, overseeing programs that strengthen employee knowledge and efficiency, managing engagements through the electronic discovery lifecycle, and providing day-to-day management and mentoring of eDiscovery team members.
  • Designing, documenting, implementing and improving eDiscovery guidelines and best practices and ensuring delivery of world-class eDiscovery service.
  • Collaborating with legal teams and firm clients in all aspects of the electronic discovery process, through each phase of the EDRM, including identification, preservation, collection, processing, analysis, review, and production of electronically stored information (ESI) and recommending appropriate solutions related to these processes.
  • Providing educational opportunities for lawyers and staff related to eDiscovery, including CLEs and/or presentations and memos related to topics such as spoliation, ESI Protocol Negotiations and case law updates.
  • Assisting legal teams with technical review of eDiscovery Stipulations and Orders in preparation for Rule 26(f) conferences and resulting eDiscovery processes.
  • Consulting on search term syntax, strategy and validation and implementing tools and processes designed to cull data intelligently and assist in evidence retrieval.
  • Evaluating and recommending value-added tools and eDiscovery platforms to the firm’s management and practice teams. Implementing and onboarding tools as needed and providing ongoing training and support to attorneys and clients.
  • Using sound project management skills and knowledge to assist with planning and management of ESI, including preparing budgets, project plans, data maps, matter workflows, production planning and projections.
  • Reporting to legal teams and clients regarding relevant eDiscovery-related metrics and providing recommendations for improvements.
  • Maintaining a working and current familiarity with eDiscovery-related decisional law to ensure that internal processes and practices adhere to legal standards.  
  • Leading eDiscovery technical training for legal teams, clients and firm colleagues on trending eDiscovery topics and tools including Artificial Intelligence, Technology Assisted Review and other analytics tools and workflows.
  • Maintaining current high-level knowledge and certification with relevant eDiscovery tools and providing recommendations and support for each.
  • Managing eDiscovery vendors, including assisting with vendor selection, coordinating vendor contacts, overseeing vendor deliverables and ensuring conformity with firm guidelines and best practices.
  • Providing day-to-day supervision and oversight of eDiscovery Technical Services team members, including Project Managers, Analysts, and Consultants
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:
  • JD preferred
  • Knowledge of discovery-related legal rules, including FRCP and FRE is required
  • eDiscovery-related certifications (RCA, CEDS) and previous law firm experience preferred
  • Previous litigation experience is strongly preferred
  • eDiscovery Project Management experience or relevant litigation experience with some management experience
  • High-level eDiscovery technical abilities, specifically related to Relativity and Brainspace (Reveal), LAW and NUIX, helpful
  • Expert level knowledge and thought-leadership related to various aspects of eDiscovery, including analytics offerings and processes such as RAL, CMML, TAR and the ability to consult with clients and legal teams on use cases and practical application of each
  • Highly effective communication, management and organizational skills with a keen attention to detail

Expected salary for this exempt role is $185,000 - $240,000, commensurate with experience, training, skills, qualifications, and other market factors.
