Job Description and Duties

Under the general direction and guidance of the Branch Chief (BC) Disability Evaluation Services Administrator III (DESA III), the Case Adjudication Bureau Chief (CABC) manages and directs, through subordinate supervisors, the activities and workload of four to nine teams. Each team is supervised by a Team Manager (DESA I) and is comprised of Disability Evaluation Analysts (DEAs), Medical Consultants (MCs), and support staff.

The teams are engaged in the adjudication of disability claims for benefits under the Social Security, Supplemental Security Income, and/or Medi-Cal programs. In this capacity, the CABC articulates, interprets, and implements Federal, Departmental, Division, and Branch policies, regulations, and procedures. The CABC is expected to model Management Competencies in this position. Management Competencies are skills, knowledge, and abilities, which have been identified for successful performance in CDSS managers. The emphasis at this mid-level of management is on human skills with a balance between conceptual and technical skills.

This position requires Federal fingerprint clearance and background check.

Criminal record checks of prospective full- or part-time CDSS, Disability Determination Service Division (DDSD) personnel will be conducted. Applicants for this position will be required to submit fingerprints for Federal processing. Federal clearance is a condition of employment for this position. (Homeland Security Presidential Directive 12) Subject to Social Security Administration hiring authority. Internal candidates are encouraged to apply. Training and Development assignments may be considered based on the availability of eligible candidates and are subject to approval by the Hiring Authority prior to appointment. Training and Development assignments are considered limited term, 12 months, and may be extended up to 24 months or become permanent.

Candidates who reside outside of the State of California may be admitted to the job interview, but they must provide proof of residence in California prior to being eligible for appointment.
