Job Description

Tenure-track: nine-month, full-time appointment beginning Fall Semester, August 1, 2025. Salary and fringe benefits are competitive and commensurate with rank and experience.

This position is a critical blend between choral conducting and choral music education. This faculty member will conduct choral ensembles, teach courses in choral music methods, literature and conducting, coordinate and supervise course-related field experiences, and supervise student teachers. The successful candidate will maintain an active schedule of recruitment and guest conducting, provide workshops and actively participate in professional choral and music education organizations, develop regional and national visibility as an ensemble director and educator, and develop and maintain positive relationships with secondary school choral directors. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a collaborative spirit and exhibit strategic innovation in the realm of choral music education, including inclusion of a wide diversity of choral repertoire, particularly from non-western and under-represented composers. The candidate will serve as the Associate Director of Choral Activities and assist the Director of Choral Activities in student recruitment and organizational aspects of the university choral program.

Required: Doctorate or ABD. At least three years of successful public school experience and a commitment to teacher training. Ability to teach courses in choral music education. Demonstrated abilities in organization, and communicating and working effectively with faculty, students, and colleagues in the field. Commitment to preparing high-quality versatile and innovative music educators for careers in the twenty-first century within a vibrant, collaborative, and collegial teaching and learning environment. 

Preferred: Successful collegiate experience.  Evidence of successful communication and professional relationships with music educators at the high school level.
